Glass Laminating
Laminated glass is a high-performance safety glass made by bonding two or more glass panes with an interlayer of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) or ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA). At BG Glass Technologies, we specialize in EVA laminated glass, offering durability and safety for a wide range of applications.
Laminated glass is perfect for both non-structural uses, such as glass wall systems, partitions, and display cases, as well as structural applications, including glass railings, glass floors, and other architectural features.
In addition to clear glass, laminated glass can be customized with a variety of features. It can incorporate metal mesh interlayers, fabric interlayers, colored laminates, and textured glass to achieve your design vision. Smart glass options allow for flexible light control and privacy, while frosted glass can be used to create a modern, sleek appearance.
GLASS LAMINATING
The lamination process, suitable for both annealed and tempered glass, comprises several steps. Initially, the glass panes undergo meticulous cleaning and preparation within a controlled environment.
Next, an interlayer material is inserted between the glass panes and subjected to preliminary heating in a high-temperature oven to enhance adhesion.
Subsequently, the glass assembly is transferred to an autoclave, where it undergoes high pressure and heat to eliminate the haze of the interlayer and finalize the adhesion process. This process bonds the glass and interlayer, resulting in a cohesive and durable unit.

Safety:
With its interlayer holding the glass together upon impact, laminated glass minimizes the risk of injury from shattered glass, making it a secure choice for various applications.

Sound Control:
This type of glass provides superior sound insulation, resulting in a higher Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating. This makes it ideal for spaces where noise reduction is essential, ensuring a quieter and more comfortable environment.

UV Protection:
By blocking harmful UV rays, laminated glass helps protect interior furnishings and surfaces from fading and deterioration caused by prolonged sun exposure. This preserves the aesthetics and longevity of interior spaces, contributing to a more vibrant and appealing environment.

Energy Efficiency
Laminated glass contributes to energy efficiency by providing insulation against heat transfer. This helps maintain consistent indoor temperatures, reducing the need for heating and cooling, and ultimately lowering energy costs while promoting sustainability.
In summary, laminated glass is a versatile and practical solution that provides safety, UV protection, and increased sound insulation, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of applications in both residential and commercial settings.
Laminated Glass Fabrication in Ontario
Our glass laminating line bonds two or more lites of glass with an interlayer under heat and pressure to create laminated safety glass. If the glass breaks, the interlayer holds the fragments in place, keeping the opening covered. That makes laminated glass the standard choice for overhead glazing, railings, canopies, storefronts, skylights and any application where glass must stay intact after impact.
Tempered Laminated Glass and Other Build-Ups
We laminate annealed, heat strengthened and tempered glass to suit the application. Tempered laminated glass combines the strength of tempering with the post-breakage protection of lamination, which is why it is widely specified for glass railings and structural glazing. Clear, low iron and decorative interlayers are available, and laminated glass can also improve sound control and filter UV light for interiors and storefront displays.
Laminated vs Tempered Glass
Tempered glass is stronger than standard glass and breaks into small pieces. Laminated glass is designed to stay together when broken. Many projects need both, and our team will recommend the right combination for your specifications. For finished laminated products, see our laminated glass page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can laminated glass be drilled or shaped?
Yes. Panels are CNC cut, drilled and edge polished before laminating so holes and cutouts line up across every lite.
Who do you laminate glass for?
We supply laminated glass to glaziers, railing fabricators, OEMs and contractors across Ontario. Contact our team with your drawings to get started.
